GAF Golden Pledge, Silver Pledge and Systems Plus: What Each Warranty Covers
The three levels cover the shingle the same way. They differ on how long the installer's work is covered.

A roof warranty is a promise made by two parties at once. The manufacturer stands behind the shingles, and the contractor stands behind the installation. When a homeowner asks what a warranty covers, the real answer is usually about the second half, because that is where the levels differ. Royal Roofing is a certified GAF Master Elite roofing contractor, and through GAF it offers three warranty levels on residential roofing. Here is how they compare.
Two kinds of defects, two kinds of coverage
A manufacturer defect means the shingle itself failed. Something went wrong in how the product was made, and no amount of careful installation would have saved it. A workmanship defect means the installation was the problem: flashing set wrong at a chimney, shingles fastened badly, a vent sealed poorly. Those show up as leaks around penetrations and edges, and they are the ones a good crew prevents through care rather than luck.
Royal Roofing describes all three GAF warranties the same way on the shingle side: 100% coverage on manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the shingle. The difference is how many years the workmanship coverage lasts.
That split is why a warranty should be read as two promises. The manufacturer's half follows the shingle for as long as it is on the roof. The installer's half is a time-limited promise, and the time limit is the number to compare when you line one level up against another.
The three levels side by side
- Golden Pledge Limited Warranty: the all-inclusive level. 100% coverage on manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the shingle, and on workmanship defects for 25 years.
- Silver Pledge Limited Warranty: the mid-level option. The same 100% manufacturer-defect coverage for the lifetime of the shingle, with workmanship defects covered for 10 years.
- Systems Plus Limited Warranty: the basic level. The same lifetime manufacturer-defect coverage, with workmanship defects covered for 1 year.
Read those three lines again and the pattern is plain. The shingle is covered the same way at every level. What you are really choosing is how long the installation is covered: one year, ten years or twenty-five. A roof that develops a leak at a flashing in year eight is a very different conversation under Silver Pledge than under Systems Plus.
Why the contractor's certification matters
These warranties are not available from every roofer. Royal Roofing's residential page says GAF Master Elite is a status awarded to the top 2% of roofing companies nationwide, and that holding it means customers benefit from a lifetime parts and labor warranty, backed by GAF, on all of the company's residential roofing installations. Their about page also lists a GAF Consumer Protection Excellence Award and a GAF Training Excellence Award alongside the Master Elite certificate.
For a homeowner, the practical meaning is simple. A contractor that has met the manufacturer's standards can offer the stronger warranty levels, and the warranty is backed by GAF, not only by the contractor. That is why a warranty conversation belongs early in the buying process rather than at the signing table.
When the warranty conversation happens
Royal Roofing works in five steps, and warranty details sit in step three, alongside the final quote and financing options. By then the on-site inspection is done, so the quote reflects your actual roof instead of a guess from the street. That is the right moment to ask which level fits your project and what it costs to move from one level to another. The project wrap-up step promises up to 100% parts and labor guaranteed, depending on warranty level, so the level you pick is what sets that number.
Questions worth asking your roofer
- Which warranty level is included in this quote, and which are available?
- What does the workmanship period cover, and who do I call if a leak shows up?
- Can I see the written terms before I sign, including anything the warranty does not cover?
- Is the crew that shows up the crew the warranty is built around?
Royal Roofing's own page says that for detailed information on warranties and coverages, you should contact them, and that is the right instinct. The full terms live in the written warranty documents, not in a summary like this one, so ask to read them. If you are comparing bids, put the warranty level next to the price, because two quotes for the same roof can carry very different protection. Weigh the level against how long you plan to own the house, too. A longer workmanship period matters most to someone who expects to stay for decades.
